Our curriculum
LiteracyAt Malmsbury Primary School, we place a high priority on supporting all our students to achieve their best in Literacy. The Literacy curriculum, based on the Victorian Curriculum, involves reading and viewing, speaking and listening and writing. All our students are taught at their point of need with teachers providing the necessary teaching and support so they achieve success. As students progress through the year levels, they build on their skills so that they become confident readers, writers and communicators.
We aim to have a two hour uninterrupted Literacy block each day. During this time, our P-2 students are taught phonics and phonemic awareness through the Write2Read program. They read a range of texts including decodable readers, leveled home ready texts as well as from the classroom library. We continue to build our students’ spelling, vocabulary, writing and comprehension skills as they progress through the school.
